PROJECT STATEMENT

“Jennifer was not just a family friend; she was like a mother-in-law and a bonus grandmother to my daughter. She stepped in as our steadfast caregiver, and her presence was a beacon of stability. Her life was interwoven with ours.

When my daughter was seven, she and Jennifer were in a severe car accident which left Jennifer with a massive brain injury, altering her life forever. I struggled with overwhelming feelings of guilt and blame even though I knew the accident was beyond her control.

Jennifer's passing in November 2024 left a void in our hearts. With her death, many family secrets and stories were lost, leaving gaps in history. Jennifer held the keys to many untold stories, cherished memories, and family traditions that are now lost forever. The wisdom which she carried with her, has vanished, leaving us with unanswered questions and a sense of incompleteness.

Jennifer's legacy is one of love, sacrifice, and unwavering support. Her memory reminds us that love is eternal, and she will always be a part of our lives. The connection we shared with Jennifer, woven into the very fabric of our existence, transcends the boundaries of life and death, a testament to the profound impact she had on our lives. The secrets she held are now part of the silent echoes of our family history, a reminder of the depth of her presence and the irreplaceable role she played in our lives.” – Kathryn Audet

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that the Exposure Photography Festival is situated on land adjacent to where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is “Moh’kins’tsis”, which we now call the City of Calgary. This is the traditional Treaty 7 territory of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. It is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. We honour and acknowledge all Nations, who live, work and play in Moh’kins’tsis, help steward this land, and honour and celebrate this territory.
