KRISTIINA LAHDE - EXPOSURE INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL

With photography I can frame and light my sculptural constructions, capture the forms, look at the shadows in an intentional way. I choose materials that are often overlooked such as consumer cast-offs and the everyday. I transform these materials, then re- present them through photography, altering or magnify our ordinary experience of them.

The series Carbon-Copy is made from sheets of discarded carbon paper. Carbon paper is an outmoded tool from a pre-digital era. The carbon sheets were commonly used to replicate typewritten documents and are now obsolete. The carbon paper is altered by slicing and draping. With each configuration symmetry and mirroring become a form of replication or “copying”. Although the intrinsic corner notches found on each carbon paper prevent a perfect copy. Each sculptural form is photographed, thus providing a record of these fragile temporary configurations.
