Passing By: Calgary Moments brings together the perspectives of photographers from across Calgary to explore the textures, rhythms, and stories woven into the heart of the city. Through images of downtown streets, surrounding neighbourhoods, and the broader Southern Alberta landscape, the show reflects how artists and community members see and interpret the environments they move through every day.

Featuring work that ranges from candid street moments to architectural studies and atmospheric landscapes, the exhibition invites viewers to pause, look closer, and rediscover the everyday beauty that shapes Calgary’s identity. Rooted in Alcove Photo Club’s commitment to accessibility and community connection, this collection celebrates the shared act of seeing—how photography can illuminate the familiar and reveal new meaning in the places we call home.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that the Exposure Photography Festival is situated on land adjacent to where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is “Moh’kins’tsis”, which we now call the City of Calgary. This is the traditional Treaty 7 territory of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. It is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. We honour and acknowledge all Nations, who live, work and play in Moh’kins’tsis, help steward this land, and honour and celebrate this territory.
