The Art of the Photobook

Tuesday, February 20, 6 - 9pm
Cost: Free
Location: Rosso Coffee Roasters NMC

In recent years, photobooks have made something of a comeback and more people — photographers or not — are making books. In part due to the ability to self-publish, it may also be that printed, physical books of photography speak to us in a way that images on the Internet cannot. Thinking beyond just a collection of images, The Art of the Photobook will be a lively discussion on the changing nature of the photobook and its contemporary relevance as a distinct art form.

The evening will begin with a talk by Elyse Bouvier (Founder, Independent Study: Calgary Art Book Fair) in discussion with Sanja Lukač (Executive Director, SEITIES) about our favourite photobooks, the future of photobooks, and the importance and relevance of photobooks in our lives as photographers and book lovers. Attendees will be encouraged to also bring along a favourite photobook to share and will have the opportunity, following the discussion, to explore a collection of photobooks (for browsing and for sale) from Independent Study.

This event is free but limited spots are available so RSVP is required.
